MAAT Friends Membership Program
These Terms and Conditions (hereinafter referred to as "Terms and Conditions") establish the rules governing membership in the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology - MAAT - Membership Program (the "Program" or "MAAT Membership Program - MAAT Friends Card") and the relationship established thereby between the EDP Foundation, headquartered at Avenida Brasília – Central-Tejo, Belém, 1300 - 598 Lisbon, with the corporate entity number 506997286, and the member (hereinafter referred to as the "MAAT Member" or "Member").
By joining the MAAT Membership Program – MAAT Friends Card, the Member declares that they have read and understood these Terms and Conditions.
A. Framework
MAAT is the EDP Foundation’s cultural initiative for the city of Lisbon. It is a museum that bridges three areas, creating a space for debate, discovery, critical thinking, and international dialogue. In addition to its exhibition programming, MAAT offers an educational program of interdisciplinary activities aimed at fostering creative thinking and new ways of acquiring and constructing knowledge, for audiences of all ages.
The Program created by the EDP Foundation aims to provide its members with a set of advantages and benefits through the issuance and allocation of the MAAT Friends Card.
B. Benefits
- The MAAT Friends Card allows members to enjoy the following benefits, under the conditions outlined below:
- Free admission during MAAT’s opening hours, with priority entry and direct access to MAAT facilities.
- Conversations with curators and artists.
- Up to 15% discount on various items available at the MAAT store.
- Up to 25% discount on MAAT’s Educational Programs and General Public Programs.
- Invitations to selected events and exhibition openings.
- Receipt of communications regarding MAAT’s programs, exhibitions, and activities
- Exclusive offers at the MAAT Kitchen restaurant (not combinable with each other or with other promotions or discounts):
- 10% discount on the total bill (excluding beverages and not applicable to group or promotional menus).
- Complimentary cocktail (Mimosa, Rossini, or Bellini) with brunch menus.
- For birthday dinners with a minimum of 10 people, the birthday person receives a complimentary meal (includes starter, main course, and dessert, excludes beverages).
- By adding €10.00 (ten euros) to the total membership fee, members may subscribe to the “MAAT Friend (+1)” option. With this option, members may bring a guest on all their visits to MAAT, with the guest always enjoying free admission to MAAT exhibitions under the same terms as the member.
C. Eligibility and Membership
- All individuals over the age of eighteen (18) are eligible to become MAAT Members.
- Members must be able to demonstrate, during the membership process or at any other time as discretionarily determined by the EDP Foundation, upon its request and within a reasonable period stipulated by it, that they are of legal age.
- Membership in the MAAT Membership Program can be obtained:
- In person: at the MAAT ticket office; and
- Online: through the online ticketing platform BOL (available here).
- At the time of membership registration, certain mandatory information must be provided, namely, full name, mobile phone number, and email address. After registration, the MAAT Friends Card will be created, bearing the MAAT Member’s name, and it will be personal and non-transferable.
- If membership is obtained online, a digital card will be sent to the member’s email address. If membership is obtained in person, a physical card will be issued immediately. A MAAT Member who registered online but wishes to have a physical card may request its issuance in person at the MAAT ticket office.
- Once registered, the Member may immediately begin enjoying the benefits of the MAAT Membership Program.
- If the membership process is carried out on behalf of a third party, the applicant declares that they have informed the third party about the terms of data processing, as described below, and has obtained the necessary authorizations to provide the relevant data to complete the registration. Additionally, the applicant commits to informing the third party of the content of these Terms and Conditions, taking full responsibility for compliance with them.
D. Conditions
- The MAAT Membership Program and the MAAT Friends Card are intended for personal, non-commercial use. The MAAT Member must always carry an identification document when using the MAAT Friends Card.
- Conversations with curators and artists are subject to their availability, as specifically determined by the EDP Foundation in each case. The EDP Foundation cannot be held responsible for the non-realization of such conversations, even if previously announced.
- The EDP Foundation does not guarantee the execution of a minimum number of Educational Programs or General Public Programs.
- The EDP Foundation does not guarantee the organization of a minimum number of exhibitions and, consequently, openings.
- The EDP Foundation does not guarantee access to the MAAT facilities in the event of a private event or if the space is overcrowded.
- The MAAT Member acknowledges that participation in MAAT programs and activities, as well as access to its facilities, follows the rules governing access and use of the MAAT spaces.
- The application of discounts related to the Membership Program requires the presentation of the MAAT Friends Card at the time of purchase.
- The EDP Foundation reserves the right to revoke the MAAT Friends Card and/or deny entry to anyone who (i) provides false, inaccurate, or incomplete information, (ii) assumes the identity of others (with or without their knowledge), or (iii) directly or indirectly harms the good name or reputation of the EDP Foundation and/or MAAT, or endangers their staff.
- In case of loss or misplacement of the MAAT Friends Card, the MAAT Member must immediately contact the EDP Foundation at the email address friends.maat@edp.pt so that a new MAAT Friends Card can be issued.
E. Price and Validity
- The subscription to the MAAT Membership Program is annual and requires a payment, at the time of registration, of €30.00 (thirty euros) or €40.00 (forty euros) if the option allowing free entry for a guest of the MAAT Member is chosen.
- The validity period of the MAAT Friends Card, and thus the subscription, is 12 (twelve) months from the date of issuance of the MAAT Friends Card.
- The renewal of the MAAT Friends Card is not automatic. To renew it for an additional 12 months, the Member must do so at the MAAT ticket office or online via the MAAT website, providing their card number.
- Failure to use the MAAT Friends Card within MAAT spaces/activities for a period of 12 (twelve) months will result in the card’s deactivation.
- If the MAAT Friends Card is canceled by the Member, no refund of the annual fee or any part thereof paid at the time of registration or renewal will be granted, except in cases of force majeure.
F. Suspension and Cancellation
The EDP Foundation may, at any time, suspend, block, interrupt, or discontinue a Member’s participation in the Program if the Member violates these Terms and Conditions or the conditions of access to MAAT’s activities, programs, or facilities. In such cases, the Member is not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement of fees already paid.
G. Liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, the EDP Foundation is not responsible for any indirect damages or damages resulting from the breach of these Terms and Conditions when such breach is due to compliance with applicable laws or regulations, including court decisions or orders from competent authorities.
- The EDP Foundation is not liable, in particular, for damages or losses that may result from:
- Delays in performance, defective performance, or failure to fulfill its obligations under the Program, insofar as such delays, defective performance, or non-performance directly result from the occurrence of events caused by "Force Majeure" or "Fortuitous Events," which could not have been foreseen by the Foundation, or which, even if foreseen, would have been unavoidable, and therefore the Member has no right to claim or demand compensation of any kind.
- Delays, interruptions, errors, interference, and suspension of communications, omissions, viruses, bugs, overloading, and also breakdowns and/or malfunctions of the electronic, computer, or electronic communication systems.
- Delays, interruptions, improper functioning, or malfunction of third-party systems and networks.
- The provision of incorrect or incomplete data.
- Errors or failures in computer systems or communication networks.
- The EDP Foundation will not be liable if the MAAT Friends Card is used without the Member’s permission, or if it is lost, stolen, fraudulently obtained, damaged, or destroyed, except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the EDP Foundation.
H. Personal Data
1. The entity responsible for the processing of personal data within the MAAT Membership Program is the EDP Foundation.
2. As part of the Program, the Foundation will process the following personal data for the identified purposes and based on the legal grounds outlined below:

3. The processing of personal data may be carried out by a reputable service provider contracted by the EDP Foundation. This service provider will process the data exclusively for the purposes established by the EDP Foundation and in accordance with the instructions issued by it, strictly adhering to legal standards on personal data protection, information security, and other applicable regulations.
4. The duration for which the data is retained varies according to the purpose for which the information is used. However, there are legal requirements that necessitate retaining data for a certain period. Therefore, unless a specific legal requirement dictates otherwise, the data will be retained only for the period necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, as identified below.
5. The Foundation may also retain data beyond the periods specified below for statistical purposes, anonymizing the data for this purpose.

6. The EDP Foundation may disclose personal data to third parties when such disclosures are deemed necessary or appropriate (i) in light of applicable law, (ii) to comply with legal obligations or court orders, (iii) in response to decisions or directives from regulatory authorities, or (iv) to respond to requests from public or governmental authorities. In any of the aforementioned situations, the EDP Foundation will take all appropriate measures to ensure the effective protection of personal data.
7. Data subjects or their legal representatives may, at any time and free of charge, exercise their rights to access, rectification, opposition, or deletion of their data, limitation, and portability of their data. Data subjects or their legal representatives also have the right to withdraw consent given for the processing of their personal data at any time, without affecting the legality of processing carried out based on previously given consent. To exercise any of these rights, data subjects or their legal representatives must submit their request in writing, via email to (fundacaoedp@edp.pt) or by registered mail to (Fundação EDP – Av. Brasília, Central Tejo – 1300-598 Lisbon).
8. Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, data subjects or their legal representatives also have the right to file a complaint with the competent supervisory authority under the law (in Portugal, the National Data Protection Commission – “CNPD”), if they believe that the processing of their data by the EDP Foundation violates the legal framework in force at any given time.

I. Amendments

AmendmentsThe EDP Foundation reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Program at any time and may also make changes or introduce new terms to these Terms and Conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to the Member with at least 30 days' notice before they take effect.

By continuing to use the MAAT Friends Card after the changes have taken effect, the MAAT Member agrees to these changes. If the Member does not agree with any of these changes, they are not obliged to continue participating in the Program and may terminate these Terms and Conditions within 30 days of the notice mentioned above, using the contact details provided in section J, number 5.
J. Validity
These Terms and Conditions establish the general conditions applicable to the Program and apply to all Members from the date of their respective enrollment, remaining in effect while the Program is active.
K. Final Provisions
- If the Member does not wish to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, they must cancel their membership and cease participation in the Program.

Neither the EDP Foundation nor the Member shall transfer their contractual position under these Terms and Conditions, in whole or in part, to third parties without the prior and express consent of the other party. For this purpose, any entity that is part of the EDP Group shall not be considered a third party.

If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is declared null or in any way invalid, ineffective, or unenforceable by a competent authority, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. The parties agree to replace the invalid provision with another that, to the extent possible, produces similar effects in good faith.

The nullity, in whole or in part, or the impossibility of compliance with any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions, unless the interested party demonstrates that the objective pursued by both parties would suggest that they would not have entered into the contract under these conditions.

Any matters related to the operation of the Program not expressly regulated by these Terms and Conditions will be assessed and decided by the EDP Foundation within the widest discretion permitted by law. For any clarification regarding this, the Member may contact the EDP Foundation at the email address friends.maat@edp.pt.

The EDP Foundation’s failure to demand, at any given time, compliance by the Member with any of their obligations under these Terms and Conditions does not imply a waiver of any rights nor does it constitute an acquired right.
L. Applicable Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by Portuguese Law.

Notwithstanding any applicable provisions, in the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation or application of these Terms and Conditions, the competent jurisdiction shall be the courts of Lisbon, with express waiver of any other jurisdiction.
