Camila Maissune, co-curator of Black Ancient Futures, takes participants on a tour, inviting them to look at the various works on display from different perspectives, from the biographies of the respective artists to the issues of spirituality invoked in some of the works.
Black Ancient Futures brings together works by 11 artists from the vast African diaspora - many of them presented for the first time in Portugal - in various spaces of the museum: in the two buildings, MAAT Gallery and MAAT Central, and in the MAAT Garden. Presenting a set of narratives and creations that cross diverse cultures and geographical spaces, the exhibition seeks to offer a set of creative possibilities for possible and alternative futures. With varied techniques, disciplines and languages, the works explore themes such as migration, non-Western spirituality and technology, creating a unique and engaging creative universe.
