 Vasco Araújo, A moment apart
 Vasco Araújo, A moment apart

The exhibition A Moment Apart offers a cross-sectional perspective on Vasco Araújo’s work, based on the link established by the artist between the performability of voice and body, through specific devices combining different visual objects. In the work of Vasco Araújo, the voice appears as the space for building both individual and collective identities that create images to confront fiction and reality. On the other hand, the body projects this identity configuration and defines the way in which each human being relates to others and presents him or herself to the world, while at the same time seeing, building and letting him or herself be built by the Other.

This exhibition celebrates 20 years of Vasco Araújo’s (b. 1975), one of the first winners of the EDP Foundation New Artists Award, in 2002, and one of the artists with works in the EDP Foundation Art Collection. The exhibition presented some works never shown in Portugal before, as well as the artist’s first piece, the video The Postman Always Rings Twice (1999-2000).

Vasco Araújo's performance in the opening is one of the moments of 4Cs Lisbon's Mediation Lab. 4Cs – From Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture is a European Cooperation Project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. This project is coordinated by Universidade Católica Portuguesa in collaboration with seven partners: Tensta Konsthall, SAVVY Contemporary, Royal College of Art, Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, Museet for Samtidskunst, and ENSAD.
