VALTER VINAGRE
“In Vino Veritas”
“... it is always easy to walk on water, but it is impossible to do it miraculously.” (Herberto Helder, Photomaton e Vox, 1979)
“Is reality true or does its appearance lead us to believe in its simulacrum? Do we believe in what we see, as if it were a “miracle”?
I know that all of this interests me when the time comes to build stories. Reality, its appearance, the error, the “miracle” (the reality of the appearance) and the photographic camera are the basic instruments I use to tell stories. Poetry, literature, painting, film and music are its humus.” (Valter Vinagre, Senhora da Graça, Idanha-a-Nova, 27 February 2020)
Artist Valter Vinagre challenges this workshop’s participants to join in a theory and practice exercise in photography that will examine the genre’s aesthetic component, the truth or fiction of its framing and the stories they conceal.
