ABOUT PRECIOUS PLASTIC PORTUGAL
Precious Plastic Portugal was founded by OPO'LAB in 2016 in Porto, Portugal and is part of a global network whose mission is to tackle plastic pollution by sharing knowledge, tools, and techniques for free. Anyone can get involved for making a real difference.

Based at Fablab OPO'LAB - Porto, Precious Plastic Portugal has been building and improving plastic recycling machines since 2016. They use open-source plans provided by Dave Hakkens, the founder of the Precious Plastic project, and work on refining and improving the designs to make them more accessible and convenient. They've sold more than 150 machines worldwide, and provide educational training and workshops to help people learn about recycling.

But Precious Plastic Portugal isn’t just about building machines – they’re also actively working on innovative projects to tackle plastic waste. One of their recent collaborations with Zero Waste Lab is the Replay project, which is testing the first national circuit for the collection, separation, and recycling of used toys. They have mobilised citizens, schools, businesses, and local authorities to help make this project a success. Last year, the Replay project won the first New European Bauhaus Prizes 2022 in the category "Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking".
