Joana Vasconcelos: Hand-Made
Hand-Made is a film from 2008 directed by Joana Vasconcelos. In the context of the exhibition An oasis at sunset. 20th Anniversary of the EDP Foundation Awards, the film will be shown in an installation which resembles an amphitheatre, a structure especially created using various types of textiles.
The exhibition programme includes several crochet workshops taking place within this structure, simulating the experience of the film even in the choice of traditional chairs originally used by the women. The idea for these workshops followed on from the online crochet sessions organised by Joana Vasconcelos and her team during the first months of lockdown and which the entire global community could participate in.
The workshops will be oriented by an artisan from the Atelier Joana Vasconcelos, Marta Passadeiras, who will explain some crochet techniques via projections on a screen. The participants, who should have a basic knowledge of crochet, are invited to create elements which will later be added to the installation thus contributing to its completion. maat will provide all the necessary materials such as wool and crochet needles. All pandemic-related health and hygiene restrictions will be observed.
