Diamantino
A film by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt
Diamantino, soccer star, can feint the most dreaded defences. During the biggest game of his life, he loses his touch of genius. His career comes to a screeching halt, and the fallen star tries to find a meaning for his life. A crazy odyssey starts, where neo-fascism, the migrant crisis, delusional genetic modifications, and a rampant search for perfection, collide.
Diamantino (2018) is first feature film by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, and was awarded the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
At maat, the film will have two screenings in the context of the exhibition Programmed Melancholy by Gabriel Abrantes, presented at Central, and included in the programme maat Mode 2020.
