Text

In this workshop, children are invited to explore portrait drawing, experimenting with different ways of observing and representing others and themselves. With the guidance of illustrator André Ruivo, participants will draw observation portraits, self-portraits and imagine new characters inspired by the visual universe of Jeff Wall, an artist on show at MAAT.

Using the relationship between figure, expression and narrative as a point of departure, this workshop encourages creativity and experimentation, stimulating an attentive eye and the construction of visual stories.

In a dynamic and collaborative environment, each child will have the opportunity to develop their own approach to drawing, discovering new forms of expression through art.

André Ruivo was born in Lisbon in 1977. He graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and received an MA in Animated Film from the Royal College of Art in London, England. He works as an illustrator and makes animated films. He has published several books, including: Retratos, Abraços, Vírus, Vida de Artista and Break Dance.
