On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the museum and building’s opening, MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology and RIBA – Royal Institute of British Architects, present a keynote lecture with the world-renowned UK architect, Amanda Levete (AL_A), the lead architect who designed the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT). Followed by a Q&A and guided tour, the occasion will explore how the project transformed Belém's riverside into a new, expansive space for public enjoyment in Lisbon.
'Through the design of MAAT, we set out to re-establish the connection between city and river. Ten years on, seeing the different ways people use and enjoy the public space we created on the roof of the museum is, to me, a measure of its success.' - Amanda Levete.
This event is organized within the scope of the museum anniversary celebrations and the first event in RIBA Europe's programme for 2026 that will take place in Lisbon. Under the theme “Lisbon on the Edge', this edition aims to explore Lisbon as a city at the intersection of rapid development, climate adaption, heritage and global capital, making it a compelling Europe case study for contemporary architectural practice.
